Pittsburgh, Pa. − March 11, 2020 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced today that the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PACCD) has awarded $240,150 through the Nonprofit Security Grant Fund to five organizations throughout Senate District 38. The Nonprofit Security Grant Fund was established in November 2019 to benefit nonprofit organizations that principally serve individuals, groups, or institutions identified as by the 2017 FBI Hate Crime Statistics Publication, including: race/ethnicity/ancestry; religion; sexual orientation; disability; gender; and gender identity.
Over 800 applications were received from nonprofits across the state. Recipients from SD 38 are:
- Temple Ohav Shalom of Pittsburgh in Allison Park, $40,916
- Adat Shalom B’nai Israel Beth Jacob in Cheswick, $97,481
- Allies for Health & Wellbeing (former Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force) in Pittsburgh, $54,053
- The Union Project in Pittsburgh, $25,000
- Generations House of Worship in Brackenridge, $22,700
“I’m happy to see this funding go to our local nonprofits to support their efforts to keep their worshippers and clients safe so that they can focus on their missions,” said Senator Williams. “However, there is still much more work to be done, including passing legislation proposed by Senator Jay Costa and Representative Dan Frankel that increases penalties for hate crimes, gives police and colleges the resources they need to identify and react to hate groups, and provides for education for individuals convicted of hate crimes with the goal of rehabilitation.”
