Pittsburgh, PA − June 30, 2025 − Earlier this month, Senator Lindsey M. Williams and members of the Senate Democratic Caucus sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation expressing their significant concerns over the dramatic reductions and delays in funding for the 2025 WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Programs. A full copy of that letter can be found on Senator Williams’ website

In 2024, SFMNP provided five $10 vouchers, $50 in total, to income-eligible seniors to purchase locally-grown, fresh produce at farmers markets. In 2025, that amount dropped to five $5 vouchers, $25 in total. Due to a delay and partial disbursement of federal funds, the total amount of vouchers dropped significantly per county. Allegheny County received 49% of the requested WIC program vouchers and 74% of the requested SFMNP vouchers.

“Every year, my office helps constituents get connected with the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, and we hear constantly what a key piece of the health and food security picture it is for people,” said Senator Williams. “This program helps keep some of our most vulnerable citizens healthy while supporting our local farmers. For Congress to have appropriated funding—only for it to be delayed and disbursed incompletely—is unacceptable and cruel.”

Last week, senior centers across Allegheny County hosted in-person distribution days for vouchers. For those who were unable to attend, vouchers are still available by completing and submitting a mail in application to the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging at:
