Acting Human Services Secretary, Legislative Leaders Recognize Refugee Service Providers Supporting New Pennsylvanians, Urge Passage Of Ukraine New Neighbors Fund

Pittsburgh, PAMay 12, 2022 − Department of Human Services (DHS) Acting Secretary Meg Snead today joined Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa, Senator Lindsey Williams, leadership from the Jewish Family and Community Services Pittsburgh and other refugee resettlement service providers in the Pittsburgh region to recognize the critical humanitarian work organizations do in support of refugees and resettlement in Pennsylvania. The event also stressed the need for the General Assembly to pass legislation introduced in both the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives that would support providers preparing to assist individuals and families displaced from Ukraine.

Veterans Place Awarded $2 Million State Grant to Construct Multi-Purpose Building

PITTSBURGH − APRIL 26, 2022 −  Veterans Place of Washington Boulevard (Veterans Place) announced today that it has been awarded a $2 million grant from Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), to construct a multi-purpose building to include handicap-accessible apartments (ADA-compliant), a wellness center, and additional space for behavioral health and other supportive services. This project will expand Veterans Place’s ability to continue to meet the unmet needs of homeless veterans including female veterans, the aging veteran population, and veterans with disabilities.

PA Legislators Highlight Name Change Legislative Package Intended to Ease Name Change Process for Transgender Pennsylvanians

HARRISBURG – April 11, 2022 – Members of the Pennsylvania House and Senate joined advocates for the LGBTQ and Transgender Community Monday, April 11, 2022, for a press conference to discuss their package of bills to update Pennsylvania’s antiquated name change laws that will ease the burden for transgender Pennsylvanians who wish to change their given name to their chosen name.

    Residents should bring a 2025 Rent Certificate from their landlord and all 2025 income documents. If applicants are homeowners, remember to bring three paid 2025 property tax receipts for your home (county, municipal, and school district) in addition to income statements.  First time filers should bring a driver’s license or other picture identification.
