Pittsburgh, Pa. − February 24, 2025 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams (D-Allegheny) and Representative Mandy Steele (D-33) announced that Sharpsburg Borough will receive a $750,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) grant for streetscape revitalizations along their Main Street corridor.
“Sharpsburg is seeing a revitalization along its Main Street corridor as new businesses move in, parks and playgrounds are being upgraded, and existing businesses are seeing more customers,” said Senator Williams. “This funding will help pay for streetscape upgrades that will keep kids and families safe as they walk to the playground, plus keep the patrons of our small businesses safe as they shop and dine on Main Street. This project is incredibly important to the entire Sharpsburg community, and I’m proud to have supported it.”
“Sharpsburg is an incredible place,” said Rep. Steele. “They have it all—good people, good location, strong community, beautiful river frontage. With the right kind of strategic investment, we will see it flourish. I’ll fight for money for this town any day.”
“This is exciting news for the Borough,” said Adrianne Laing, Sharpsburg Borough Council President. “This money will help with streetscaping and improving Main Street. Thank you to Representative Steele and Senator Williams for their tireless advocacy on our behalf.”
Sharpsburg Mayor Kayla Portis said, “I’m grateful our Borough received funding for this project so we can make safety and accessibility upgrades to Main Street as well as to make Main Street more attractive. These improvements will greatly increase the quality of life for residents.”
“We are grateful to Rep Steele and Sen Williams for their unwavering support for the work that we are doing in Sharpsburg to make improvements for all current and future residents,” added Sharpsburg Borough Manager Christine DeRunk. “This grant will be used to advance the streetscaping project along Main Street and to increase connectivity within town.”
