Pittsburgh, Pa. − Marzo 26, 2024 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams (D-Allegheny) and Representative Emily Kinkead (D-20) announced a $500,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) grant to West View Borough.
This funding will be used to reconstruct sidewalks along Perry Highway from Center Avenue to Wentworth Avenue in the downtown core of West View.
“The upgrades to the business district in West View are a wonderful initiative and this funding could not have come at a better time with all of the improvements and remodeling of West View Elementary that is projected to be completed in Dec of 2025 and is located within our project area,” said Bruce Fromlak, West View Borough Manager and Chief of Police. “The Borough’s project, which began in 2020, will not only enhance the charm of our small town, but also provide better support for small businesses and considerations for upgrades to our fire department, improve pedestrian comfort and safety for students walking to school, and create a more inclusive community with handicap ramps installed along with trees and park benches. Mayor Henry and members of the Borough Town Council are excited and appreciative of the consideration and support from Senator Williams and Representative Kinkead in helping maintain West View Borough, A Great Place to Live.”
“West View Borough has developed a thoughtful and forward-looking plan to improve pedestrian access to the Perry Highway corridor,” said Senator Williams. “From prioritizing student safety at West View Elementary for families who walk to school to improving access to businesses and community resources like the West View HUB, municipal offices, and fire department, this project embodies the connections that we look for in our neighborhoods.”
“I’m thrilled about this investment in pedestrian infrastructure,” Rep. Kinkead said. “Making our communities more walkable benefits local residents, businesses, and the environment. West View Borough has been working hard to revitalize the Perry Highway corridor and I’m eager to see this project come to fruition.”
