Pittsburgh, Pa. − March 26, 2024 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams (D-Allegheny) and Representative Arvind Venkat (D-30) announced $310,557 in Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) grants to projects that will benefit McCandless Township.
Grantees receiving MTF funds in Senate District 38 and House District 30 are:
- The Town of McCandless will receive $142,418 for construction of new sidewalks and ADA ramps along North Meadow Drive.
- Sisters of Divine Providence will receive $168,139 to install a new ADA-accessible walkway along Babcock Boulevard.
“This grant will allow the Town to continue towards a more walkable, safer, and healthier community by filling a vital gap in sidewalk infrastructure,” said Jack Casey, Town of McCandless Ward 2 Councilmember and Council Vice-President.
“The Town of McCandless is has embraced connectivity and prioritized projects that reflect their values,” said Senator Williams. “They have engaged in a comprehensive sidewalk mapping program and identified the areas where they can best increase connections between neighborhoods, people, and businesses, all while keeping pedestrians safe. I’m proud to continue to bring state resources to support their ongoing work.”
“These funds make McCandless more accessible for pedestrians, connecting more people within our community to all that our town offers,” Rep. Venkat said. “Sidewalks safeguard pedestrians’ lives, ensuring that they may safely travel on foot.”
MTF grants are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
