Pittsburgh, Pa. − March 26, 2024 − Senator Lindsey M. Williams (D-Allegheny) and Representative Mandy Steele (D-33) announced $1,253,974 in Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) grants to projects that will benefit the Borough of Sharpsburg, Harrison Township, O’Hara Township, and the surrounding communities.
Grantees receiving MTF funds in Senate District 38 and House District 33 are:
- The Borough of Sharpsburg will receive $500,000 to construct a roundabout and connector road for the Riverfront 47 development.
- Harrison Township will receive $553,974 to upgrade the traffic signal and pedestrian safety at the intersection of Freeport Road and Springhill Road.
- O’Hara Township will receive $200,000 to install sidewalks along Alpha Drive and Gamma Drive.
“Harrison Township is thrilled that we have been awarded this grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority for our Transportation Equity Project which aims to provide upgraded signals and pedestrian safety features,” said Gary Meanor, Chairman, Harrison Township Board of Commissioners. “This will assist the township with our long-range goals of evaluating and updating the Freeport Road corridor. We thank Senator Williams, Representative Steele, and the Commonwealth Financing Authority for their support in making these grants possible.”
“The Township of O’Hara is very happy to receive this grant,” said Julie Jakubek, O’Hara Township Manager. “Sidewalks in RIDC Park will increase mobility opportunities for both Park resident businesses and the general public. We would like to thank Senator Lindsey Williams, Representative Mandy Steele and County Council Member Anita Prizio for their support for this project.”

In Harrison and O’Hara Townships, new sidewalks will help bring together residents, workers, and businesses, all while keeping pedestrians and motorists safe. MTF grants are administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.
