Pittsburgh, Pa. – November 21, 2024 – Today, Senator Lindsey M. Williams announced the awarding of dozens of laptops for three organizations in the 38th District as part of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority’s new Digital Connectivity Technology Program.
“The internet and technology are a critical part of daily life for people of all ages, whether that’s students connecting to educational resources, people using telemedicine to stay healthy, or families using social media to stay in touch over distances,” said Senator Williams. “This funding will put much needed technology into key community centers like the West View HUB, allowing people to connect to the internet and their neighbors at the same time.”
In total, 84 laptops are being awarded to the following organizations in the 38th District:
- Etna Community Organization: 28 laptops
- The Kingsley Association: 20 laptops
- West View HUB: 36 laptops
“We are incredibly thankful for the support we receive from Senator Williams and her staff, said Scott Pavlot, Executive Director of the West View HUB. “We are thrilled with this recent award which will enable us to provide ongoing support for the students participating in our out-of-school learning programs. Our partnership with the state and Senator Williams is greatly appreciated.”
Through the program, the PBDA will purchase and distribute $20 million in laptops for libraries, municipalities, workforce training organizations, not-for-profit organizations, and other community anchor institutions in areas where affordability has been identified as a barrier to broadband adoption and use.
The groups awarded laptops will then make them available to those who lack the technology needed to access the internet.
